2005, White Whale
When confronted by the sight of four guys on a stage, each manning a standard tool of rock n roll guitars, bass, drums but without a microphone in sight, one has certain expectations. But the Precious Fathers don't play reverb-washed surf tunes, and, although their all-instrumental format inevitably gets them characterized as a post-rock act, you'll find little in their tunes that resembles the jazz- inflected noodling served up by the likes of Tortoise. What, then, do the Precious Fathers play?
'The short answer is rock music without vocals, I guess,' offers guitarist Tim Loewen alongside drummer Josh Lindstrom. 'There's always been intermittent talk about adding vocals, or possibly a vocalist. I don't think we've had a conversation about getting a vocalist in a long time. We're pretty comfortable being an instrumental band right now.'
