Iggy Pop takes on the language of romance, putting a decidedly French twist on his new album Preliminaires. Produced by longtime collaborator Hal Cragin (They Might Be Giants, Sarah Mclachlan, Rufus Wanwright), Preliminaires focuses more on jazz arrangements and Iggy’s distinctive, rich baritone. He even sings in French, performing a cover of the jazz standard "Les Feuilles Mortes (Autumn Leaves)," which was originally made famous by French legends Yves Montand and Edith Piaf. Other titles include the New Orleans-influenced "King of the Dogs," a story about a dog named Fox who explains "how cool it is to be a dog, and how much it beats human life," and the jazzy bossanova standard "How Insensitive," composed by Antono Carlos Jobim. Of course, this is Iggy we're talking about. Preliminaires also has its more raucous moments, such as the swamp-rock stylings of the track "Nice to Be Dead."

Featuring cover-art created by French/Iranian graphic novelist and animated film director Marjane Satrapi.
