Prescription Perils is a testament to patience and growth. Two years in the making, The Winter Blanket’s new full-length captures the sound of change. The prescription in question is a healthy dose of time. Time spent to heal wounds and release burdens. New influences like Townes Van Zandt and Springsteen’s Nebraska have now been combined with the group’s careful interpretation of minimalist rock. Cello and banjo have been introduced to the band’s standard of understated drumming, warm bass, graceful piano, and alternating use of gentle-picked acoustic and smoldering electric guitars. Perhaps nothing has benefited more from the time away than Stephanie and Doug’s hushed, emotional vocal pairing.
