2009, At War With False Noise
A dark fusion of Siousxie and The Banshees, Killing Joke and Ramleh. A loud, repetitive racket. "I first listened to Vom in my darkened bedroom, headphones on and flitting in and out of sleep and dreams. The music both relaxed me and left me uneasy. The duality of the experience of listening to Vom is the key in my opinion. Vom play a very hybrid style of music. There are elements of so many bands and genres that it becomes a totally new listening experience. They have a 'metallic' sound, especially to the guitars but the bass is off on a total 80's New Wave/Goth trip. Heavy throbbing fast moving basslines coil and sway, it brought to mind the Cure in some of their darkest phases (Faith?) and other similar bands like Siouxsie and The Glove. The drums and guitar build up almost a wall of sound around the familiar yet strange basslines whilst the vocals are very distorted and eerie. The parts combine into a deep, thick mixture of moving, organic music that creates a heady, thick atmosphere. The pacing and repetition to the bass and drums brings to mind classic Kraturock acts, though yet again with a unique and slightly alien shift. Further listens to the album allowed me to truly appreciate what a great recording this is, and made me determined to see this band live at some stage. Though I don't think I will be able to re-capture the feelings I had during the strange, lucid experience of my first dream tinged listen, and for that I will always be sorry." - The Angry Goat / Justwannarock.net
