Prurient
Another one-man band out of Madison, WI, Dominick Fernow basically makes up Prurient with a theme of anti-technology and anti-electricity -- with the exception of his microphones and four-track recorder. Backing Fernow's stance up is his unconventional use of banging objects together to create music; playing with live wire, pennies, frying pans, toolboxes, scrap metal, and used shotgun shells are an example of some of his instruments. The Black Post Society embraces and accepts the depression of not having anything left to hunt. The mask without a face to hold. The depression of the hunter after the deer is killed. It is better to be hungry than to have eaten. As fantasy shatters under the whip of reality, erotic malaise settles in the nest of the mind inverting this dormant fuel to rekindle the endless cycle of sexual chaos. Black industrial / power noise from this highly respected US act!

Brooklyn noise herald and Hospital Productions label-head, Dominick Fernow presents his first release for the Editions Mego label. Fernow has been an active instigator in the power electronics and noise genre for well over a decade, with 100+ releases issued so far, usually limited and covering all known formats. This time out, Pleasure Ground oozes with a new shade of grey from the krayon set. A new dark waved sensibility takes hold. The seconds after a corpse appears on a riverbank, and the "what the fuck am I gonna do" slips from your lips, the Valhalla horn of Prurient trumpets! This takes the difference between a noise record and a damp doomcast and splits the difference with a hot knife. Brutality has a new form as it mows down school cafeterias full of trench-coated losers to a headphone soundtrack of [ read more ]

Cocaine Death is a compilation of three of Prurient's finest Hospital cassette releases as well as two unreleased tracks. The previously released material forms a triptych exploring the relationship between futile pleasure, substance and escape; escape being a myth. This collection of cassette material is perhaps the biggest clue in the development of Prurient. This is where the edges blur and advancements reveal themselves. When Prurient material is released in the ether its shock-waves often take o [ read more ]
