Radiohead
Radiohead was one of the few alternative bands of the early '90s to draw heavily from the grandiose arena rock that characterized U2's early albums. But the band internalized that epic sweep, turning it inside out to tell tortured, twisted tales of angst and alienation. Vocalist Thom Yorke's pained lyrics were brought to life by the group's three-guitar attack, which relied on texture -- borrowing as much from My Bloody Valentine and Pink Floyd as R.E.M. and Pixies -- instead of virtuosity. It took Radiohead awhile to formulate their signature sound. Th...[more]

Filling the gulf between OK Computer's epic progressive rock and Kid A's skittering electronic theatrics, Hail to the Thief borrows equally from each. Its title implies that this will be a collection filled with songs of anger and dissent, but Radiohead no longer howl at the moon like they did on 1995's The Bends. Instead, they use eloquent metaphors and complicated arrangements to express the uncertainty, fear, and anger arising from the 2000 U.S. presidential election and a pos [ read more ]

In January 2004, it was revealed that a Japanese tour EP was going to get a release in March of that year. A video of "2+2=5" from Radiohead's peformance at the Belfort Festival was set to be included on the Japan-only CD. The artwork resesembled the style of the Kid A/Amnesiac era, which was unexpected since Radiohead released Hail To The Thief a year before and most tracks were b-sides from the Hail To The Thief singles. -ateaseweb

Radiohead's debut album, Pablo Honey, is a promising collection that blends U2's anthemic rock with long, atmospheric instrumental passages and an enthralling triple-guitar attack that is alternately gentle and bracingly noisy. The group has difficulty writing a set of songs that are as compelling as their sound, but when they do hit the mark -- such as on "Anyone Can Play Guitar," "Blow Out," and the self-loathing breakthrough single "Creep" -- the band achieves a rare power that is both visceral an [ read more ]

Besides the title track, My Iron Lung EP also contains outtakes from then-ongoing recording sessions for The Bends, compiling songs that were issued as B-sides on two separate "My Iron Lung" CD singles in the UK and other markets. My Iron Lung was originally released in EP form with all eight songs only in Australia (and interestingly was given away there with early pressings of 1997's OK Computer to help stimulate sales of that album) but is currently in print worldwide.
