Realistic

Realistic is the guise of sound collage artist, electronic musician, and graphic designer, James Towning. Following up previous releases for the Illegal Art (Girl Talk, Steinski) and Seeland Records (Negativland) labels among others, Realistic's latest offering is the album Drowned In Meaning.

The new album features 16 tracks comprised of hundreds of samples, some obvious, some obviously obscure and all masterfully edited, stitched and layered with Realistic's synthesizers, drum machines, digital effects, and keen sense of humor (the album title is intentionally sarcastic.) In an age of glitch IDM presets and ironic mash-ups, Realistic’s sample-based music continues to be among the most original, innovative, and exciting examples of the genre. Whether the source samples are found around the house, on a busy Chinatown street, or a crackly sound effects record, Realistic’s juxtaposition of head-spaces always creates something surreal and fresh.?
