2005, Troubleman Unlimited
Sean Tillman's Return of the Unicorn EP is a collection of outtakes from the Dance 'Til Your Baby Is a Man long-player. Most of the songs are remarkably similar, cut from the same self-deprecating but outwardly directed cloth of mockery as is the par for Sean Na-Na's course; in fact, these songs seem to be rhythmically and melodically strung together as one thought. Throughout, Tillman's bizarre preoccupation with unicorns, his unquenchable thirst for dissing those he deems unworthy, and a good dose of self-recriminatory humor ride over the band's tumultuous, singalong {indie pop}. There are exceptions; most notably, the darkly funny death-wish keyboard pop of Tumor Party that finds Tillman plotting to start a rumor about a fictional malignance incurred by his overindulgence in {rock & roll}'s attendant excesses. Comic though he is, Sean Na-Na proves again with this likeable, occasionally loveable EP that he and his cronies can run with the best purveyors of angry, irony-laden {guitar pop}. ~ Bryan Carroll, All Music Guide
