Rye Coalition
Childhood friends Ralph Cuseglio (vocals) and Jon Gonnelli (guitar) yearned to play rock music and at the helm of grunge, the two formed Rye Coalition. David Leto joined in to play drums and brought along his childhood mate, Justin Morey, to play bass. A dynamic within the group was tight, while Herb Wiley was added to make it a sure fit. The members of Rye Coalition were barely 20 when they issued their five-song demo, The Dancing Man, in 1994. A few shows in and around their native New York sparked a fervent desire, but they were a working-class ba...[more]

Rye Coalition busted onto the scene back in 1994 and has been rocking the masses ever since. What was previewed on the 'ZZ Topless' 7" is now witness in all its full length grandeur. Recorded by Steve Albini (Shellac) in his studio in Chicago, these tracks are total balls out rock 'n roll that will blow you away. As Time Out NY states, Rye Coalition's music "has evolved through some awkward phases, but appears to have arrived fully, embodying much of what's good about youth-fired rock."So wh [ read more ]

VINYL FORMAT. Rock. That's all that really needs to be said, but for the uninformed I'll dig a little deeper. It's from the hips, dirty sex, LED ZEPPELIN, rolling bass, sharp ear bleeding guitars, BIRTHDAY PARTY (not like a party for you, but the band called the B-DAY PARTY) and low guttural animal like all come to mind.

Loud, obnoxious and entertaining music on both sides of this split EP. Rye take the cake, though only by a bit, with the music being more energetic, innovative and unpredictable. Sort of in the realm of an upbeat, not as grim Jesus Lizard. Not to say that the Karp side is bad; on the contrary, they still have their dark sense of humor and snotty attitude to accompany the heavy riffs and screaming vocals they're known for. And as an added bonus, there's an entire live performance that captures their [ read more ]

From the seedy back alleys of Jersey City explodes Rye Coalition, beloved heroes of rock n' roll! The boys are back with their long awaited fourth full-length Curses, produced by Nirvana drummer/Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. Kicking out the jams way before American hard rock became fashionable again, this band doesn't follow trends - it destroys them. Curses wields the power of 70's era hard rock, backed up by the volatile modern punk that put Rye Coalition on the map. The guitars [ read more ]

Curses, as anybody who likes Rye Coalition enough to read about its trials and triumphs on the web knows, is the product of spectacularly bad luck. After the veteran band was signed to Interscope and landed Dave Grohl as a producer, a whole lotta nothing happened, and after a long-enough time, members Ralph Cuseglio, Jon Gonnelli, David Leto, Justin Morey, and Herb Wiley collectively decided to pull the plug, eventually handing over the fruits of their labor to longtime New Jersey [ read more ]
