2012, Brando
The high energy duo of Chris Martin and Chris Phillips were cutting their teeth in Detroit's indie scene for a short time before trekking to Raleigh, NC with a unique sound casually described as: "Two guys that sound like five." Armed with only an electric guitar and drum kit, Martin and Phillips whip their way through SUPERMEGAFANTASTIC, a 33 minute raucous-opus loaded with clever harmonies, psychedelia, bombastic drumming and infectious dance-hooks. This is one of the most groove laden and indelible debuts in years; it captures IAMDYNAMITE's propulsive vigor during performances, but also pushes the limits of a two-man juggernaut with studio wizardry. They've opted for a guitar-based bottom end, in lieu of the usual bass guitar, linking it to the biggest drum sound this side of "When The Levee Breaks." The result is a powerhouse of an album, recorded to analog tape, mixed out of the box with vintage gear at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in Austin, Tex.
