The healthy obsessive is an entity explainable only in outcome. Bound to expectations born of scrutiny and reared with defiant purity, "Selected" EP (FT34) once more reinvents the deviant pop career Kurt Heasley and his Lilys. Since the debut of 1993's "In the Presence of Nothing," the Lilys have shed layer after layer of timely fascination. From the post-"Loveless" shoegazer curriculum and indie slacker chic of "A Brief History of Amazing Letdowns" and "Eccsame the Photon Band" and throughout the Zombies / Kinks revivalism of "Better Can't Make Your Life Better" and "The 3 Way," the Lilys have etched a tradition of meticulous sound interpretations and maniacally realized pop. An apparent throwback, "Selected" continues this tradition and further confounds finger placers through its influence and aural precision.
