RJ Valeo (aka transelectronic_theory) has been composing and performing electronic music for over 10 years but has shied away from releasing his material. With over 5 albums in private distribution, he has taken the final step and decided to bring his compositions out of the studio and into the world. Part mad scientist, part coffee junkie and part sonic gorilla, he brings with him from the smokey depths of his underground studio all the sounds of the undithered world. using unique sound design treatments and processes, his compositions span from glassy rezonant sheets of sound to turbulent storms of pixels and electronic dust.
He began his journey into computer assisted composition in 1988 using an amiga to create mods. utilizing this primitave (by todays standards) machine, in 1991 he composed, recorded and distributed his first casette release entitled Honetol 14 - Perceptions. This was an industrial project heavily influenced by skinny puppy and ministry. following the honetol project, he began to venture away from the harsh vocal laden compositions towards a more beat oriented musicality with a project called Sphere.
He caught the ear of a local studio owner and was given free reign at the interzone studios to record his compositions. it was in late 1995 while at interzone studios that transelectronic_theory was born. inspired by the words on a wendy carlos record, transelectronic_theory has become more than just a band or musical project to composer rj valeo, it has become a way of life. in his own words: 'Being transelectronic is more than just about writing music, it's about living life paying attention to all the sounds around you. Listening to everything, and finding music in it. From a babbling brook to the hussle of the streets of Manhattan, it's all sound, and all sound is music.'
In 1998 he formed the transelectronic coalition and put up the transelectronic.org website filled with writings and theorys about music, composing and all the technology involved therein. Over the years he has mentored and brought many people into the world of computer aided composition and sound design, most of which he remains friends with to this day. In addition to all this, he has always made the time to perfom live when ever possible, surprising and delighting audiences everytime.
For Hobby Industries he produced three tracks which combined his ideas about minimalism with his interest in micro-beats and snippets of understated melody ? a mixture which results in a laidback but still in some way upbeat clicky instrumental popsong for the 21st century. Still the music of RJ Valeo is for people with a certain kind of love for repetitve grooves of the likes of SND or Gas.
