Shocking Pinks was formed by Nick Harte (in 2002) and is currently based in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Nick Harte has previously been in New Zealand bands such as The Incisions, Montessouri, Laudanum, The Urinators, Solaa, The Brunettes and Pig Out.

The band released a self-titled album on DFA Records in September 2007, compiling tracks from their previous two releases "Mathematical Warfare" and "Infinity Land". Preceeding the album was a series of singles, starting with the track "Smoke Screen" featuring a remix by The Glimmers.

Early in the band's existence, they were known for frequent changes in personnel. Musicians involved with the Shocking Pinks have included members of the Leper Ballet, the House of Dolls, Solaa, Pig Out and the Tiger Tones. The current line-up (as of 2008) is Nick Harte, Emma Rosenberg, Tim McDonald and former The D4 bass guitarist Vaughan Williams.
