2004, Planaria
Washington DC's Shortstack play doom country – a kind of lonesome, demented version of old school hillbilly country-and-western blues. These 13 songs are best likened to a run-away train, speeding mercilessly around the bend to meet the devil or death, whoever gets there first. Although the music is firmly rooted in the present, the band strives to uphold an important element in traditional country music: to meditate the more despairing aspects of life. Think a less gothic Cramps, or punkier Americana-roots-rockabilly.
