2006, The Control Group
Female security guards double-take passport photos of the band, but x-ray monitors scan bits of Pavement, drops of early Built To Spill, an open Modest Mouse container, a couple Strokes, and a vial of Neil Young's frantic youth. Skeleton turns momentum on high. As Danish press raves, three music videos from the record are uploading new listeners faster than the single "The Wonder" can reinstate the group back to #1 on Danish National Radio. Which it did. It might be a secret to some, but Figurines are one of the most hard working Danish indie bands at the moment.

There's nothing barebones about Skeleton; across its 14 tracks, Figurines spin significant punch into the numbers, laying out an album full of not only fun, rapid-fire jaunts, but also intricate song-to-song correlation. To look at individual songs, you could easily see why several of them could make it to radio (and also, unerringly, the mouths of most anyone that that hears them), but Figurines have gone further in their craft. As with their namesake, what appear as bite-size pieces to be enjoyed at a glance may just belie true artistic touches, and when viewed alongside others in a series, a very amazing display can be viewed. Figurines may not have done anything here first, but they definitely do it all well, and with a more refreshing take than pretty much anyone else out there right now. Collect this one.

It's unbelievable just how solid this album is. With a strong Pacific NorthWest style, these Scandinavian boys can really rock it out. Think of a more Neil Young influenced Modest Mouse performing songs written by Doug Martsch of Built to Spill. They've got some great hooks, a little twang and a lot of power.

A very cool band from Denmark which I had the pleasure to talk to. The members are all very relaxed. Their music is kind of rocking and flipping guitar music. Although the voice of the singer isn't really good it's always great to listen to their new sounds of guitars and also to the banjo on "wrong all the way". I have "skeleton" now already for one year and I´m very proud of it.
