From the ashes of Lazycain, guitarist John Majer and bassist web Grandish stuck together to form J.Rawls with drummer Brian Stiglich. However, before you pick up this 4-song EP expecting the pop stylings of some Lazycain veterans, be warned that this is a pleasant departure into a more introspective sound. The second release from Iron Compass Records, J. Rawls' 'Slav' combines the unbridled energy of math rock with understated simple melodies; sometimes in the same track. What will ring familiar to fans of the late Lazycain is retention of fantastically harmonized vocals that give depth to songs that are already complexly brilliant.
