1996, Chainsaw
Sleater-Kinney's debut reocrd is a medium-fi blast of thrashy riot-grrl rock. Some tracks are reminscient of 90's Sonic Youth ("Be Yr Mama"). While others are just a punk blast of angst ("A Real Man"). The group suffers for excessive monotone melody lines, but suceeds in making this reviewer uncomfortable in being male. The group showcases a promising understanding of dynamics, and they are certainly confident. This is a good first record, and a showcase for talent that would later blossom on albums such as The Hot Rock.
