Slint formed in the late eighties and has released two critically acclaimed albums that, to this day, are unrivaled in their intensity and beauty. "Tweeze," Slint's first record, was originally released on the Jennifer Hartman Records label in 1988 and re-issued by Touch and Go in May 1993. "Spiderland," number two for the band and the first released by Touch and Go, saw daylight in April 1991. Both records have gone on to become highly successful and seem to increase in popularity with each passing week. Dave Pajo now plays with Tortoise and Aerial; Brian McMahon now plays for the For Carnation and used to be in Squirrel Bait. Other members went on to play with Bastro, The Breeders, King Kong, The Palace Brothers, and more.

Several years ago, 4 kids with thier roots buried in the foundations of punk, set out to create music that the likes of even God had never seen. Little did they know at the time how important thier work has been, and continues to be. "Spiderland" to this day stands as one of the most important independant records of all time. It changed the standards by which indie rock is judged, and introduced a new style and dynamic, now refered to as "Post-Rock". Sense thier demise, many bands (excellent in thier own right) have tried to emulate the Slint sound, putting thier own spin on the music, of course. Bands like June of 44, Tortoise, Mogwai, and The Halifax Pier most definetly have some roots in the Slint garden, whether they want to admit it or not. below this review someone said that "Tweez" (the bands first release) is crap. I do agree. They were experimenting on that album, and the experimentation lead them to release one of the greatest records of all time., "Spiderland".

I could go on for hours about the quality of this record, but that degree of hyperbole is liable to ruin the experience for some people. So all I am going to say is: Excellent album. Everyone should hear it.

As it stands, Slint broke up. They now populated hundreds of Touch and Go bands, like the For Carnation (who sound just like...Slint). Anyways, Slint started it all. Moreso than Sonic Youth, Slint are the reason why Mogwai, and The Arab Strap, and even Seam exist. Not to say of all the side projects, which also are there because of slint. But, to get to the interview. Tweez is crap. The EP is decent, but only 1/2 of it (Glenn). This, however, is brilliant. Tracks like "Washer" will make you run to turn off "Summer" by Mogwai, and rotate that vinyl one more time. I have been playing "Washer" for many moons now, and although the vocals suck (they were looking for a female lead vocalist for a long time), the song is intense, brooding and powerful. Exactly what you're looking for, if you like that sort of thing.

Dark, sweet and very good for every brain ...a master-work .

Slint's Spiderland is a dynamic masterpiece that even to this day seems decades ahead of its time. The imagery presented in the lyrics is both captivating and haunting. Spiderland is more of an experience than a collection of songs.

I can not believe that there are no reviews of this album. Spiderland is the best record ever made. enough said.
