Hopewell's style is unmistakably influenced by the peculiar amalgam of rural upstate woodland and downtown urban decay that defines the Hudson River Valley region of New York, where the band makes its home. Pop-chaos flows from this former 'spacerock' ensemble comprised of two touring members of Mercury Rev, a choirmaster, and a New Orleans-trained percussionist.
