OFFICER MAY have a reckless energy and an unbridled vision in their music. The sound is as raw and crunching as their attitude and each idea is embedded in songs with gripping and surprising structure. The lyrics possess the heart-wrenching and desperate longing of THE REPLACEMENTS but the music is as undoubtedly powerful and honest as early NIRVANA. But these references only reach so far. OFFICER MAY's distinctive foresight and keen ability to capture the mundane, the sarcastic and the powerful elements of punk rock gives them their unique voice as a band. The songs sway back and forth between aggression, desperation and indifference and but the theme is always brutal honesty and unnerving power. Only a band officially for a little over 2 years, his debut release by OFFICER MAY is certainly the most exciting record to be released from Boston band in a long time. Moreover, it's definitely the most riveting and powerful punk rock record to emerge amongst the recent reactionary retro-garage rock trends.
