After a 4 record run for 4AD this album was originally released on the Island subsidiary Supreme. Recorded with a new backing band this is the first Red House Painters record on which Kozelek really lets his rock chops loose, a forerunner to his more recent, critically acclaimed, work with Sun Kil Moon. Alongside brilliant originals are 3 covers, highlighting Kozelek's interpretive skills, of Yes ("Long Distance Runaround"), the Cars ("All Mixed Up"), and Wings ("Silly Love Songs").
