Axxess & Ace (CD)
SOUND SAVER. Songs: Ohia will break your heart if you let them (and sometimes even if you don't). The songs here are full of failing relationship melancholy. Jason Molina's lyrics and voice cut right to the chase without being insincere or sappy. He is accompanied by haunting and fluid guitar, bass, and drum arrangements. Edith Frost joins him on "Captain Badass" to stab your heart further. Comparisons to Will Oldham's work (in various Palace incarnations) are inescapable, but this music stands on its own. Sadness and insight breathe through Molina's voice without ever giving in to utter despair. There is a strength that remains and comforts through it all. These songs are examples of some of the most heartfelt and beautiful music you will ever hear. To quote "Captain Badass": "You won't have to think twice/If it's love you will know." You will understand.

| Axxess & Ace: wow!
Well, this time, nobody will pass Jason Molina by, and even my mother loves it...
Beautiful voice, as it ever was,
Beautiful guitars, as it ever was,
Beautiful songs, as it ever was,
Beautiful words, and even more intimate than before,
And as did Smog with Red Apple Fall, a real work to make the record sound as a whole, Warren Ellis type of violins, Female backing vocals in harmony, still a "live" sound but this time we're far from Lo-Fi. And even for those who are not crazy about new-country, Captain Baddass will make the last of Black Uhuru's fans fall...
