2012, Marshall Teller Records
VINYL FORMAT. Just over a year ago Marshall Teller Records crammed 4 bands on to their first 7" release. Now to round off 2011 they have combined more of their favourite band all to be featured on a four-way split 12" record. To open the 12" is the glitter grunge of Gross Magic. With their Teen Jamz EP being scooped up by Fat Possum within months of being on the web, we expect huge things from this band.
The History of Apple Pie follows up next. Fresh off tours with The Drums and Male Bonding, THOAP look to keep the 90s guitar band era alive with the aid of woozy girl vocals. Their track TUG, a melange of melody and noise as pioneered by Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and My Bloody Valentine.
Flipping the record over you are welcomed by the hazy pop perfection "Buired at Sea" by Echo Lake. London quintet Echo Lake have made quiet the name for themselves in a very short period of time. February's debut EP - Young Silence - sold out in days, the accompanying video by filmmaker Dan Nixon reached 100k views in a few weeks, print press caught up with the blogosphere and fell in love, and the band toured, with the similarly fast-rising 2:54, for the first time. .
Novella close the 12" with a new track, "Santiago." Fairly new to the world Novella already have tours set with the Dum Dum Girls and 2:54. With their debut single selling out super fast, this will be their second release and their track Santiago soothes you in with girl group harmonies, tinged with a dark undercurrent of jangled guitars.
