2011, Palmist
VINYL FORMAT. Limited to 500 hand-numbered copies. Lotus Plaza, the solo project from Deerhunter's Lockett Pundt, finds the guitarist/vocalist bringing his shoegazy, experimental-minded guitar and vocal haze to songs influenced by classically melodic oldies-radio pop, and other rhythm-forward tracks with post-punk forebears. Lotus Plaza drapes beautiful indeterminate gauze over gentle, structured vocal lines and crunching guitar distortion alike, creating moody, orchestral crescendos and Brian Wilson-worthy pop textures with equal deftness. Toronto's Odonis Odonis finds the prolific Dean Tzenos, of FatCat's own Ten Kens bringing some of that band's grimy, catchy-as-all-hell aesthetic to a simultaneously more sinister and playful project. Odonis Odonis brings together elements of British Invasion psych, the '90s American indie art-rock of bands like Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 with a rhythmic, relentless pastiche-style vocal arrangement to create dark, infectious tracks.
