VINYL FORMAT. Doctor Scientist claims the A-side with four screaming synth-punk numbers that feature a melding of shredded vocals and chirpy - almost poppy - keyboards. They're like the Screamers recast for a more melodic, multi-tasking era. The Octagon Control side features two equally impressive songs. Slithering and ominous, a little more free form than Doctor Scientist, this band hooked me immediately with "Davey Crotchhitch," which is slow and dirge-like, with vocals that echo like cries from a gas chamber. The band's second cut, "Hedz R Guna Roll" takes off at a breakneck pace, sounding like a desperate tumble down a spiral staircase. Rising to a feverish keyboard-induced finale, the song ends with a lurch, leaving you wanting more.
