Smart, precisely crafted songs, and Sea Ray knows how to write and perform them. “Stars At Noon” is the result of years and years of songwriting, practicing, honing, gigging, working, and sweating. The effort to make it all seem, well, effortless… it was worth it. It’s not easy for a six-piece band to come across at once breezy and accomplished. The rockers on “Stars At Noon” rock. “Revelry,” “Quiver,” “Lalaland” – they are all dynamic breathtaking journeys. The melancholy tracks (“Stray Dog’s Got It Made,” “Swear To Your Face,” “Forge Utopia”) set a mood and nail it. “Stars At Noon” is definitely “songier” (and I mean that in the best possible way) than “Turn On The Bright Lights,” but Interpol is a good frame of reference. Hell… Sea Ray and Interpol both have a lyric about a couch. They MUST be similar.
