2009, Straw Man Music
Heralded by WXPN's PD Bruce Warren as "a singular new voice to arrive on the music scene," David Berkeley releases his third studio album via Thirty Tigers. The true uniqueness in David's music is his gift for melody and his poetic and philosophic lyric writing. Berkeley graduated from Harvard and spent many years as a whitewater rafting guide in Idaho, a combination that comes through in his thoughtful prose, which take us deep into the American landscape. David Berkeley's songs are stories, each one an introspective and emotional telling of a tale, each one firmly rooted in time and space. "David Berkeley's songs are simultaneously delicate and sturdy," says Rhett Miller of the Old 97s. "If they leave you unmoved, you are made out of stone." Produced by Brian Deck (Iron and Wine, Counting Crows, Josh Ritter, Modest Mouse) and featuring Nickel Creek's Sara Watkins on background vocals, Strange Light features Berkeley's most accessible and powerful work yet.
