Strange Strings

VINYL FORMAT. This 180 gram vinyl version of Strange Strings was originally recorded in New York City in 1966 and features the vocals of Arthur Jenkins. Strings is a very uncommon Sun Ra LP because it is a concept album of sorts, featuring musicians playing instruments such as Chinese lutes, moon-guitars, mandolins, bass, and koto. In the words of jazz history scholar John Szwed, "Sun Ra here succeeds in creating perhaps the most completely improvised but organic piece in the history of jazz, with no prepared rhythmic, melodic, or harmonic material, performed by players on instruments foreign to them."
