2009, Soul Jazz Records
VINYL FORMAT. This latest Soul Jazz/Studio One album was conceived and compiled by Soul Jazz Records and Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd in Jamaica shortly before he died. The album is a first, as it is compiled of mainly unreleased material from the vaults of Studio One. This CD shows how American Funk influenced Jamaican artists as heavily as Soul music had been an influence in the Rocksteady era and Rhythm and Blues in the Ska period. Studio One Funk features heavyweight Funk and Reggae from start to finish. Jackie Mittoo, Alton Ellis, Sound Dimension, Cedric Brooks, Jacob Miller and many more bring you classic original Reggae Funk from American funk anthems such as 'It's a Shame', 'Shaft', Booker T and The MG's' 'Melting Pot' and 'Hang Em High' to heavyweight versions of 'Beat Down Babylon', 'Skylarking', 'Westbound Train' and many more. Most of these tracks have never been released before making it an essential release for anyone interested in Reggae. Studio One Funk comes with the usual Soul Jazz Records slipcase, comprehensive sleevenotes, exclusive photos and the vinyl comes on super-loud double vinyl.
