Sunny Skies

VINYL FORMAT. "Sunny Skies" b/w "Here Comes the Rain." Houston's Pink Playground is the husband and wife duo James and Tara (who also plays with the band Lashes) who play music awash with pitch bending, digital reverb, synth, wall-of-noise guitar feedback, and distortion. Pink Playground play the kind of music you can get lost in, like the gaze of a loved one. The band's ruffian drumming, circling guitar wails and washed out vocal waves are meant to be fallen into and experienced. It's a cottony blanket of sonic textures, palpable and yet uncontainable as a dream state. The more you think about it and listen to it the less clear it becomes. I'd sooner swim in it than describe it. It's cool to hear band's like Pink Playground, who not only have an ear for the music that came before them, but can take it and twist it into their own unique sound. - David D.
