2001, Shinkansen
Three magical new songs recorded with Ian Catt (Trembling Blue Stars, St
Etienne). Like last year's debut album, this new EP demonstrates Fosca's
unique ability to effortlessly mix dancebeats with keyboards, guitars, a
cello, and Dickon Edward's endlessly quotable lyrics. Lead-track "Supine"
is probably the first pop single to consider the temptations of outraging
small-town decencies by committing public acts of love on artificial turf
as an alternative to school swimming-lessons. A blend of seriously moody
guitar-pop and groovy electronica, salvation for fans of Pulp, Denim, Felt,
White Town, Moose, Pet Shop Boys… Fosca is Dickon Edwards, former
songwriter/guitarist with room-pop-soulsters Orlando, former leader of
Sarah Records recording artists Shelley, and sometime guitarist for
Brit-Pop up-and-comers Spearmint. Backed by Alex Sharkey of former Sarah
band Brighter, keyboardist/vocalist Rachel Stevenson and cellist Sheila
Butter, mmm.
