2006, Ghostly International/SMM
A logical continuation of the themes that made their eponymous debut recording for Ghostly so melancholic and delightful, Twine offers up this four-track digital EP as a teaser to their forthcoming full-length. The haunting Our Bones is eerily reminiscent of Dean Roberts' most recent acoustic work on Kranky, with guitar-string scrapes as percussion and atonal melody passages freely plucked until the frantic signature percussion comes in from seemingly out of nowhere. Part IDM, part Derek Bailey, and part Mark Hollis, Twine seems at their best when they're at the most uncomfortable, and (unlike many others in the genre) only rely on crazy drum patterns and programming as needed, rather than it being the focus of their sound. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
