Swanlights EP

Antony Hegarty, in service of Record Store Day, released Swanlights, a four-track EP. A bit confusing considering his previous LP was under an identical heading, but the latter contains a remix of the title track performed by Oneohtrix Point Never, as well as two new B-sides. Both Antony's voice and his extremity of emotion are inimitable, and these two traits adhere to one another in beautiful harmony. Whether he is expressing grace or dismay, it's impossible to avoid identifying with the artist on some subconscious level. The EP's new B-sides encapsulate all that is Antony. His stunning vibrato and multi-octave voice is accompanied by the gentleness and gloom of piano in "Find The Rhythm Of Your Love". The track peaks with a gypsy-like excitement that would infatuate any Beirut fan. "Kissing No One" similarly partners trembling vocals with piano, but it follows a more heartfelt narrative of love's remorse. The true highlight of Swanlights is the remix of the title track. The refurbishment by OPN gives the already transcendental song a spellbinding twist. The deep synth rhythms alongside Antony's wobbling vocals reminisces the sonic achievements of The Walker Brothers' Nite Flights, primarily resembling the genius that is, "The Electrician". – Baeble Music
