Many balls-to-the-wall musicians adopt a bohemian persona to fit their music, but Viking Moses is the real deal. Living a nomadic life for nearly a decade now, Brendon Massei has released banjo and acoustic guitar albums under several names. Perpetually on tour, he has played with Will Oldham, Cat Power, Songs: Ohia, and Devendra Banhart. Brendon himself cites Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum as his biggest influence and with this release he has done what he himself describes as a representation of what most of us are guilty of i.e. sitting in a friend's room and strumming out the chords to your favorite songs. Swollen & Small is a 4-track collection of Neutral Milk Hotel's songs recorded in January 2007.
