The Reece Nasty EP (CDep)
THE SITUATION have taken their native Philadelphia by storm and are prepared to do the same with the rest of the world upon the release of their mesmerizing debut, The Reece Nasty EP. Naming their CD after a business card found in a wallet left behind in a drug deal gone bad (the card says "reece nasty, splittin' wigs"), the EP is a spellbinding collection of guitar pop
that brings to mind the likes of THE LA's, THE VERVE, THE SHINS, and RIDE. The core of group's gripping sound stems from the incredible chemistry between vocalist/guitarist Christopher Tucker and lead guitarist Joe Castro, whom Tucker dubs "Joey Marr" in reference to the legendary Smiths guitarist. It's impossible not to get blown away by rousing numbers like "The Best Prescription Pill Available" and the explosive closer "Why I Can't Relate," or lost in the intoxicating sea of sound on atmospheric gems such as "(What Keeps You) Keepin' On?" Keeping everything in line is the killer rhythm section, consisting of bass player Laz and drummer John Paul Travis.
