Already being lauded as the Best Album of 2006, NYC's TV on the Radio bring you, "Return to Cookie Mountain," which by all acounts should become a modern day classic. Since 2001, TV on the Radio have been mixing postpunk, electronic and other atmospheric elements in

such a creative way that it only seems fitting that it's core duo, Tunde Adebimpe and David Andrew Sitek, are both visual artists as well as musicians. Tunde is a graduate of NYU's film school and specializes in stopmotion animation. The duo met when Sitek moved into the building where Tunde had a loft; each of them had been

recording music on their own. They soon realized that their sounds would work well together which resulted in a

self-titled, 24-track CD released by the Brooklyn Milk imprint. TV on the Radio then added guitarist/vocalist Kyp

Malone to their fold. The band has now returned with Return to Cookie

Mountain, a more polished but still soul-searching collection of songs. The Interscope release is set for September 12, and its atmospheric blend of soul, experimental, and avant-garde rock is sure to open the minds and ears of those who listen. Domestic version includes 3 bonus tracks!!

TV on the Radio had a lot of hype to live up to after an intriguing and beautiful debut plus the huge amounts of hype they garnered. I did my best to not listen to any of the leaks when they came out so that when the CD came I would listen to it all the way through, and I found that it deserved all the hype that it got. From the beautiful political "I Was A Lover" to the fast "Wolf Like Me," every second of this album is pure bliss.

This album, Return To Cookie Mountain, was eloquent and impressive in every aspect from the awe-inspiring vocals and lyrics to the brilliant beats and originality. This band has taken the alternative genre to a whole new level and created a style of music that has never been introduced and can never be repeated.

Whether TV on the Radio took a cue from Bowie's performance on "Province," or not, the melodies on this album are well-crafted and catchy as hell. And speaking of Bowie, someone once told me listening to some of his records is like attending the theatre. RETURN TO COOKIE MOUNTAIN has a related theatrical quality (see "A Method") without sacrificing its pop sensibility (see "Wolf Like Me"). The arguable highlight is "Tonight" though. The mild neurosis of "I Was a Lover" and the hopelessness of "Let the Devil In" are both redeemed in "Tonight," a moody tribute to enjoying the "measly portion" this life deals us. Sonically, it is not unlike Eno, lyrically it is not unrelated to something Tim DeLaughter might think about, but put all together, it's almost magical, and impossible to get out of the head. Maybe not the BEST album of 2006, but certainly near the top of the list.

Great from start to finish! At first,I thought it wasn't as good as "Young Liars" or "Desperate Youth...", but then I listened closer...this is not a record (and a band) that knocks you out at first sight. This is what I'll keep in mind when their next record will be out...

The most over-rated indie album of the year. The sounds are cool, but the mix doesn't get the best out of them. The vocals are interesting, but they get old and annoying faster than the latest twee hit. Not even the best stereo in the world would make this sound whole. In short, this is no Funeral, more like a jumbled Interpol of Antics. No way is this the year's best.

I pre-ordered this album but got a copy from a friend a week ago or so. I am absolutely in awe how this album sounds and...feels. It's something truly extraordinary. I'm getting shivers with every song, but especially the track Hours. It is stunning. I've heard really good albums this year, namely Danielson - Ships and Knife's Silent Shout...but this is the best this year. Buy it people and enjoy every minute of it.

I couldn't wait for the US release, so I picked up the import. It was worth the extra cash. Initially, it took me a few listens to warm up to this disk, but it has a way of sneaking into your head and sticking there (especially album highlight "The Method"), not in an annoying-pop-hook way, but in a this-is-actually-art way. Buy this album, listen to it three times, and I'm willing to bet it will stay in your heavy rotation.

I've had the advance of this for about two months now, and I continue to be blown away by it. It's as solid as anything they've done--some of the songs are simply gorgeous, many are entrancing. They seem more cohesive on this, and I consider that a positive over all. This is by far the best album I've heard in 2006, and I expect it to remain that way.
