Among the songs included here are tracks from well-known artists like Elliott Smith, Man or Astro-man?, and The Apples In Stereo along with lesser-known acts like MK Ultra, East River Pipe and Papas Fritas.
Songs were recorded in a variety of situations: Bill Fox's home-recorded 4 track, Robert Poss's pristine digital 16 track home studio, 24 track commercial studios for The Moonlighters and The Witch Hazel Sound, and many other small and private studio setups. Three of the tracks, Elliott Smith, Snowmen and Elephant Factory, were recorded at Jackpot! Recording Studio, run by Larry Crane, Tape Op's editor.
This compilation serves to cover the same variety of recording styles and creativity that is written about in Tape Op magazine while providing an enjoyable listen. The liner notes include anecdotes technical info about the recordings.
