Teddy finally returns with the follow-up to 2000's The Tyranny Of Distance with Hearts Of Oak and he's brought his incredible band, The Pharmacists, with him. Produced by Nicolas Vernhes and Ted Leo himself, Hearts Of Oak takes off where Tyranny left of, with passionate moments and moods inspired by Generation X, Dexy's Midnight Runners, and The Ruts. The album references the intensity and politics of late '80s DC hardcore scene, as well as the political dance pop of Chumbawumba. [ read more ]

With his premiere release on Lookout Records, Ted Leo makes a significant creative leap forward from the body of his substantial catalog. By fusing the punk and retro-pop elements of his musical history with a noisy affection for '60s blues-rock formulas, The Tyranny of Distance showcases some of Leo's best songwriting to date. Laden with falsetto hooks and overtly romantic observations of the world, he is able to control combinations of aggression and sentiment and focus them into highly [ read more ]

With this recording, Ted has returned to the helm of a rock band, leading James Canty (Make-Up), Jody Buonanno (Secret Stars), and Amy Farina (Warmers), and his voice is strong, his passion unnerving, and his energy is indomitable. All five songs on "Treble In Trouble" heave with emotion and ardor as The Pharmacists breath life into four Leo originals [ read more ]
