TEEPEE’s Erix S. Laurent is a multi-instrumentalist enveloped and all too aware of the paradoxical world of Miami; its brutal realities just as potent as its beauty. Stitched in Miami’s blind spot as an indefinable musician, TEEPEE greets success by harnessing the inconsistency of his hometown, interlacing brilliant and bleak soundscapes. Yet this year sees a renewed direction for Laurent with his second release, Distant Love or: Time Never Meant Anything, and Never Will. Distant Love offers a glimpse into TEEPEE’s vivid world and it’s a little askew, a little wistful but nothing less than utterly hypnotic and memorable.
