RESTOCK. This 7" single is the third release by the GREAT UNRAVELING, which was formed nine months after the demise of Universal Order of Armageddon by
founding members bassist Anthony Scott Malat and guitarist/now vocalist
Tonie Joy. While in some ways carrying on aspects of U.O.A.'s futuristic,
"beyond" hardcore sound, a distinctive "power trio-esque" sound developed
out of the GREAT UNRAVELING, delving into odd, yet driving time signatures,
spearheaded by the far advanced (beyond U.O.A) bass playing of Anthony Malat
(now in LOVE LIFE), somewhere between YES's Chris Squire and the CLASH's
Paul Simonon. The songs on this 7" were two of the first that the band wrote
and performed, but these versions were recorded by Steve Albini during the
session that produced their debut full length LP/CD, released by Kill Rock
Stars. Comparisons to other bands have varied, from Kill Rock Stars
labelmates UNWOUND to the STOOGES, to other heavy power trios ranging from
CREAM to HUSKER DU. This 7" single (the latest pressing on colored vinyl)
comes in a special gatefold cover, with 51 anagrams, variations of the bands
name, printed on the cover.
