2011, Columbia | Legacy
Highlighting Neil Diamond's origins as a singer/songwriter in the legendary Brill Building in New York, Columbia/Legacy presents The Bang Years 1966-1968. Covering the earliest years of his career in New York, Neil Diamond's recordings for Bert Bern's Bang Records produced some of the most beloved songs of his career including "Cherry, Cherry," "Solitary Man," "Kentucky Woman," "Shilo," and "Red, Red Wine." These original mono recordings have been restored and re-mastered using the most innovative digital technology and time tested true analog playback and processing. Over the years these songs have been covered by a diverse group of artists: from The Monkees, who covered "I'm a Believer" in 1966; to UB40 who did "Red Red Wine"; to alt-rock band Urge Overkill, who famously covered Diamond's "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon" for Quentin Tarantino's 1994 Pulp Fiction soundtrack; to Johnny Cash's version of "Solitary Man" for the 2000 American Recordings album with Rick Rubin.
