It was fifty years ago when the Beatles released their first recordings. Time Life is proud to offer the full story of their earliest sessions, the beginning of it all: The Beatles with Tony Sherida: First Recordings: 50th Anniversary Edition. Released in one complete collection for the first time in North America, this compelling 2-CD collector's set is a remarkable story, told through music, words and photos, of a band on the cusp of changing music and pop culture forever. It's a fascinating and comprehensive view of one of the most important yet overlooked moments in Beatles history.
One of the kings of orchestral pop, Bert Kaempfert discovered the group in a German nightclub, signed them to his own company and then released the songs through Polydor Records in Germany back in 1961; their Capitol Records debut didn't come until 1964. The Beatles with Tony Sherida: First Recordings: 50th Anniversary Edition. Edition beautifully captures the moment in the lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison right before they rocketed to international stardom. The earliest days of the Beatles have never been revisited in such detail and design.
The set includes every recording they made for Kaempfert and Polydor in 1961 and 1962. Multiple adaptations have been released throughout the past several decades - some in mono, some in stereo - each with distinctly different sounds. Most notably, the U.S. versions of these tracks were overdubbed with another guitar player and drummer in an attempt to mirror the edgier sound the group had evolved into, unbeknownst to American fans at the time of their release in 1964. We've included all versions of every track, including mono and stereo mixes in this amazing collection showing the unmistakable sound of a new kind of band.
