2010,
Catastrophic Neon Rainbow is the lo-fi pop-drone project of Mark Lewis and his 13-year old daughter, Casey. Using sparse percussion, haunting guitars, and subtle melancholic keys over forlornly distorted vocals, this duo makes music that lures the listener into a warm world of shared, melodic sadness. This is not to suggest CNR is a downer, rather this track gives off a pervading sense of emotion that veers towards the bittersweet. And sometimes bittersweet-ness in song is just what you want. This EP is best listened to while relaxing on a magical hammock as it flies away to that far off land where laid-back pop trippiness like this surely originates. And if you don't have a magical hammock at your disposal, well, listening to this from your computer speakers from your cubicle at work will do just fine too.
