2003, French Kiss Records
The Bloodthirsty Lovers album was recorded between September of 2000 and March of 2001. The recording project began in June of 2000 in Woodstock, NY as a Those Bastard Souls record. In August of that year Dave Shouse bought a synthesizer. One month later, his musical slant took a drastic turn. Dave started recording soundtracks of old Twilight Zone episodes and 1950s science fiction movies. The primal analog synthesizer sound appealed to him and started working itself into his music. His recording started to change. Everything started to change. The old Bastard Souls songs on the shelf became somehow mismatched with the new vision. Creating continuity between the pre- and post-synthesizer sounds became an illogical attempt. Dave realized at that point that the collection of songs had taken on new and independent life. The Bloodthirsty Lovers were born.
