2011, 8MM Musik
The release of The Blue Angel Lounge is special in two ways, it is the tenth release on 8MM Musik and also the first German band signed by the label. The band was introduced to 8MM Musik by the former Spaceman 3 bass player Will Carruthers. The label was impressed by the very unique and adult sound of the very young band from Hagen.
Not only is the band's name related to the Velvet Underground, the sound can be clearly identified. Opposite to many other bands who have tried to sound like the Velvet Underground, the Blue Angel Lounge manage to sound fresh, authentic, and distinct. It is their juvenile lightness that allows them to mix the sound of the late sixties with 90's shoegaze and todays neo-shoegaze. You can hear other influences in their music from My Bloody Valentine, Spritualized, Galaxie 500, and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
