The Gospel Hummingbirds
The Gospel Hummingbirds are a male gospel group based in Oakland, California. They are noted for a musical style that mixes inspirational music with urban rhythm and blues - what Hummingbird James Gibson, Jr. calls "Rhythm and Gospel."
Since their inception they have recorded six albums. In 1993, the album "Steppin' Out" earned a Grammy Nomination in the category of "Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album" and received the French "Jazz Academy Award" as best gospel album of the year.
Although they started singing in church (and still do), in 1987 the 'Birds were invited to perform at Eli’s Mile High Club, a blues nightclub in Oakland, California.
