The Hundred Dollar Band
First appearing with a release in 2007, the Hundred Dollar Band is the most recent band featuring New Zealand music legend Alastair Galbraith, whose work on violin in particular has led to a variety of collaborations, while his solo work has been even more voluminous. Also in the band are Galbraith's wife Maxine Funke, whose principal contribution is cello, and percussionist Mike Dooley. Particles and Waves, the group's debut on Emperor Jones Records, showcases a variety of improvisational selections featuring the trio jamming together on core melodies or drones, including a cover of "Midnight Blue," a song originally done for Galbraith's one-off project Plagal Grind back in 1990.
