2010, Relapse Records
Horseback, the brainchild of Jenks Miller, has released two full-length albums since forming in 2007. The band's second full-length, The Invisible Mountain, spans four tracks of gorgeously warm analogue drone rock that brings to mind the kraut drift of Amon Duul II and the modern Western cinemascope of Earth while pushing headlong into territories unknown. It's an intensely heavy psychedelic, post-metallic, kraut-rock journey. The guitars buzz, drone, and twang, the drums are powerful and tight, the instruments locked into slow burning build ups with sparse brutal vocals rasping for breath. Horseback manages to straddle polar opposites of the musical spectrum, possessed evil and pure blissful beauty, oftentimes within a single song.
