2006, Barsuk
The John Byrd e.p. is the new 7-track CD-EP, featuring live tracks taken from the 2004 spring Transatlanticism tour. Recorded by the bearded and mysterious DCfC touring sound guy, John Byrd, and guitarist/producer Chris Walla, the 7 tracks include songs spanning the band's career (as well as the never-before-released cover of Sebadoh's 'Brand New Love') and some hilarious between-song banter.

Peter PendergrassSo I bought this EP right when it came out a long long time ago (or so it seems) becuase I thought it would be extremely scarce and impossible to obtain after a certain amount of time... but leave it to Insound to find a closet in the middle of Wisconsin stockpiled with a bunch of discontinued, first edition, self-printed rarities that were never released because of some completely sordid reason. Actually, I'm pretty sure these were not printed by the band or all of that, but they are discontinued and rare and also completely worth the nine dollars and ninety nine cents. This EP is probably my favorite of the DCFC releases that I own. Not only is it live, which is something I really enjoy, it's recorded well and has some great versions of some great songs. The extended version of ''We Looked Like Giants'' is great. In addition to all THAT, Ben talks about Barry Manilow... which is just fantastic. And I'm not being sarcastic. This is really Death Cab at one of the highest points of their indie stardom... right before ::coughcough:: they-signed-with-alantic-and-garnered-a-teen-girl-slut-i-mean-fan-base-of-prepubescent-twits. I'm not even kidding. These kids throw panties... at DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE... it's almost wrong. Anyway... really good EP. Buy it.
