The New Balance

The Phil Mosberg Quartet is back with their second release for Solitaire Records, The New Balance. A little older, a little wiser, but no less intense or ferocious, the group still manages to pull the listener in with its blend of intricate compositions and inspired improvisations. The band picks up where its debut Forest through the Trees left off, running through a set that recalls the jazz tradition while expanding on it. The group's sound has matured and still contains the edge and excitement that keeps this band at the forefront of experimental, modern jazz.
